Nigeria is the largest producer of crude oil in Africa, but two-thirds of the population live in poverty.Isn't this why we have the United Nations? To take care of crap like this? They aren't proving very useful in alot of other places, this would be a great chance to prove themselves still relevant. And of course, if the U.S. were to try to help, all we would hear would be how Bush is stealing oil from the "brown people" again.
The bulk of the population lives on less than $1 a day and many people feel the only benefit they ever see from the country's oil is cheap, subsidised fuel, our correspondent says.
